Simon Davies is a consultant nephrologist at the University Hospital of North Midlands and Professor of Nephrology and Dialysis Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Keele University, UK.
His principal research interests are in peritoneal dialysis, the evaluation of fluid status in advanced kidney failure and the utilisation of Home Therapies. He has led or co-led a number of influential studies including the European Automated Peritoneal Dialysis Outcome Study (EAPOS), the GLOBAL Fluid Study, PD-CRAFT and the International Peritoneal Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (PDOPPS). Other international collaborations have included trials evaluating the effects of polyglucose and low sodium solutions on fluid status in PD patients, and the use of bioimpedance to guide fluid management (UK-Shanghai Trial and the BISTRO trial).
His research is supported by Kidney Research UK, UK National Institute of Health Research, and the National Institute for Health Research (US).
He is currently president of Euro-PD and was president of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis 2010-12. He has co-led the International Society of Nephrology’s Kidney Failure Strategy and currently leads on the development of a toolkit, in collaboration with the WHO, to support the development of dialysis services in low resource settings. He is a Kidney Research UK trustee and chairs their Research Strategy Committee.
